MANDARINFISH

I had heard reports that getting a photo of a mandarinfish is a challenging prospect at best. So I initially thought the dive guides were yanking our chain when they said these guys would be out and about, and unafraid during the day. However, they weren't exaggerating. They took us to a normal-appearing rock pile with a ton of urchins on it, and sure enough, they were flitting about amongst the spines. Still not an easy photo, and we didn't get to see any mating behaviour, but we enjoyed watching them for several minutes, as they are beautiful indeed. This must have been an unusual place, because later attempts by AA II crew to show us Mandarins were far less successful.
